This is truly amazing & very touching…………
Here his wife is injured and the condition is fatal.
She was hit by a car as she swooped low across the road.
Here he brought her food and attended to her with love and compassion.
He brought her food again but was shocked to find her dead.
He tried to move her….a rarely-seen effort for swallows!
Aware that his sweetheart is dead and will never come back to him again,
he cries with adoring love.
He stood beside her, saddened of her death.
Finally aware that she would never return to him, he
stood beside her body with sadness and sorrow.
Millions of people cried after watching this picture in
America and Europe and even in Asia . It is said that the
photographer sold these pictures for a nominal fee to the
most famous newspaper in France . All copies of that
newspaper were sold out on the day these pictures were published.
And many people think animals don’t have a brain or feelings?????

This is just so utterly sad and heartbreaking. To the idiot who thinks the bird is trying to “copulate” the bird knew his mate had been hurt, he was trying to help. The female was hurt and dying, you think the male didn’t know that? (You bozo)

To believe the male bird is only trying to have sex with the female bird, is a most wonderful proof of just how shallow and crass so many males are. And indeed what Deox says about males has truth, it is far from the whole truth, since human males are also human beings with the capacity of choice, and there are many of us males-turned-men who, like the huge majority of people seeing this sequence of pictures, know very well it has nothing to do with sex.
Guyang, you write with a sense of innocent unawareness, unintentional ignorance, to not see what is so very obvious and clear to most people including myself, that there is very deep love and companionship-bonding. Despite there being many animal species and insect species that know nothing of love and devotion, there are plenty that do, and such is evidenced most clearly, beautifully, and articulately in this situation that is captured so wonderfully by the person with the camera.
Deox, you write with an arrogant cold selfishness that is not only ignorant and blind, but hatefully coldly arrogant. What you say about what is so-called proven, is only proven from the perspective that there are so ridiculously many males-not-yet-turned-men who reject the choice of using their minds to see and care in another way about more than that which is on the surface, and about more than what is so often manipulated into being the so-called truth by only looking at a part of a situation and then twisting that into the whole overall truth. Not to mention how you are so very blind and coldly arrogant against what is so obvious in the pictures that prove all by themselves that there is nothing about sex here.
I am one such man who knows your idiocy, coldness, selfish manipulation and twisted justification to keep yourself from thinking and feeling any type of caring and sensitivity, to justify your continued rejection of the emotional responsibility and maturity of thinking with your heart and head on your shoulders rather than the head between your legs. Because even in this, your response to these pictures, such thinking is what you demonstrate about yourself and level of ante-intelligence.
This is a perfect and pure situation of devotion and love, albeit rarely seen in animals but still true nonetheless. Each picture captures perfectly, a stage in the process of experiencing and dealing with the loss, right down to the last when it is realized — and accepted — the loss is final and nothing can be done to change it.
And of course the bravery and anguish cannot be forgotten, that the hit bird was feeling, for life to be departing while the mate was doing what could be tried to keep her alive. Deox, if you really want to believe that (a majority of) males being stupid enough to fuck anything-female-similar pertains to what is in these pictures, you go right ahead and make that choice and keep yourself in your emotional oblivion and abyss of cold uncaring insensitivity that rejects love and devotion, but me and countless hundreds of thousands others know very full well that what is in these pictures is a galaxy-and-a-half away from such blatantly cold selfishness.

I saw this insanely stupid post about a year ago. I can’t believe it’s still around. There is no way to tell what is happening in these pictures. The text invents a story that people seem to want to believe. Fine, believe it if you want to. But don’t call this a ‘true story.’

Okay this is sad, but to go as far as saying that it proves animals to have feelings? A person’s biased captions on a picture proves nothing.
I saw a sparrow once bonk itself on the fender of a car… flying too low, of course. I picked it up off the road so it would not become road kill, put it in the bush/flower bed; once it rested and got it’s bearings – it flew off. So, don’t assume it’s dead and don’t just leave it there.
As for what is and isn’t true? Unfortunately, your loss if you’ve not experienced and witnessed these connections.
The male of the species is always the more colorful. These are two males. I bet the dead one owed the other guy money.

i watched this same thing happen with 3 of those really small birds that always look like their babies.
out of nowhere one got hit, plummeted down in the middle of 4 way intersection, and fluttered around for a little bit. the other two swooped back down, trying to get it out of the intersection to safety.
a car came roaring by, and killed all three of them.
and correct you are, birds don’t marry. but they also don’t divorce.

im sitting here getting high and i go here and this just completely broke my heart T.T when i saw these pictures i just felt a coldness and sadness for this poor bird who has lost one beloved one

There’s no reason to think that birds experience the same emotions as humans. The author does nothing but make baseless assertions, starting with that the injured bird is the other bird’s wife. Seriously, what the fuck?
Going on to say things like “He stood beside her, saddened of her death” is just as ridiculous. Looking at the photo, and making the assumption that the uninjured bird is male and the other is female, all you can discern is “He stood beside her”. The same concept applies to the comments made on every other photo.
I’m fairly confident that the claims that the healthy bird trying to move the other being a “rarely-seen effort for swallows” and that “Millions of people cried after watching this picture” are also baseless assertions.
I am a firm believer in the bible and I believe the lord does give us the right to be lords over animals. However the Bible also says that animals will always follow his will. I believe this is the lord’s way of telling us that animals are better “people” Then we are.
you do all realize your making a big deal over a sparrow right? the sparrow although it is an interesting and awesome bird is like the mouse of the skies, it eats nearly anything and destroys tons of crops a year. its really just a pest. and who cares if animals have feelings? we as a species dont respect the feelings of our own kind why are we worrying about those of simpler creatures??

Animals do have emotions and personalities not just instinct.

To say animals are more intelligent than humans is really ignorant. Think about it, how many animals do you know that drive cars they built or run computers they made. Animals are not supposed to be dumber or smarter than humans, they (like us)play the role that was dealt to them. As far as feelings go I believe they have them a little but alot of their actions I feel are called instinct.
